In the hot-dip galvanising process of steel, zinc skimming takes place as the residues that are left behind in the galvanizing bath. Zinc Skimming is often caused because there is no access to remove the zinc skimmings during the withdrawal of the steel from the galvanizing kettle.

Zinc Skimming can be used as raw material to produce zinc chloride which is widely used in the battery industry. It is also used in hot-dipping galvanizing, zinc coating, and re-use of zinc.
